This song represents every woman who was convinced to say yes, felt too unsafe to say no, was gaslit by medical professionals about their menstrual pain, had their body autonomy rights removed, and for every woman who was ever asked ‘what were you wearing’.
More often than not, women are publicly shamed and held responsible for the crimes of violence held against them at the hand of men. Where the media, and uneducated society use language as a final act of incrimination against women.
Scream the song with your sisters, daughters and mothers, whilst teaching the men in your life to read between the lines.
In the video, I pay homage to an exhibition titled ‘What were you wearing’ that first occurred at University of Kansas. The art project was created in 2013 by Jen Brockman, the director of KU’s Sexual Assault Prevention and Education Center, and Dr. Mary A. Wyandt-Hiebert, who oversees all programming initiatives at the University of Arkansas’ rape education center.
All proceeds of physical downloads of Hush Hush via iTunes/Bandcamp etc. will be donated to Rape Crisis England & Wales.
